White Pine, and the world over, according to Carina: the ordinary is extraordinary. A day filled with events that we adults often overlook as nothing more than routine, mundane, and normal is cast in a completely different light when viewed through Carina's wide eyes: it is an adventure into Wonderland.

Is the urge to pop bubble wrap an innate or learned behavior?

Explanation of seemingly rhetorical question postured as title:
  • A large bubble mailer with concealed bubbles (meaning it wasn't an obviously fun potential toy at first glance) was leaning against my purse under the kitchen counter. Its contents: unexpectedly-'skinny' corduroys to be returned and refunded.
  • Carina purposefully emptied the mailer and laid it flat on the floor. She then stepped onto it as one would a rug. This isn't unusual because she has an affinity for rugs of all kinds. She can't just walk across one or wipe her feet. No, she uses them as gahs (the affectionate name for her receiving blankets with garment tags) or nap mats or has to move them to a more suitable location according to her expert opinion. Needless to say, if I haven't vacuumed the rugs on a given day, she will have dumped their contents onto the floor before I can beat her to it with the vacuum. Murphy's Law at its toddlerhood finest, folks.
  • What happened next is the reason for the question: she jumped up and down on the bubble mailer, laughing wildly, for a good 10 minutes even though it wasn't popping as you would expect. I've never jumped on bubble wrap with her, she hasn't seen it on Sid the Science Kid or Elmo's World, and they have never done this at school (I asked her teachers). Therefore, the question as title. Any thoughts?
I love to look back through the hundreds of photos we have of our li'l family. I have included one from almost exactly a year ago that was taken during our trip to Canada for Carina's Aunt Darci and Uncle Mike's wedding and also one from last weekend to demonstrate just how much a babe can grow and has grown in just one year! Amazing!

We will be celebrating Halloween (duh!) all decked out: each of us, that is. We are not those stick-in-the-mud parents with a stick-in-the-mud kid. NO, SIR! It's our favorite holiday (no jeers, only cheers, Readers) and it's not just for kids. The camera will be put to excellent use, so check back next week to see how it all turns out. We are incredibly optimistic :-)

Holy cannoli.. did Jared carve that pumpkin? The 23-pounder we got at the pumpkin patch turned out to be almost 3 inches thick, so it didn't turn out quite as awesome as in years past. It was so hard to carve through!

As to your question: who knows? But it is so oddly tempting, isn't it?

Oh, well, I meant oddly tempting, but I really meant oddly satisfying. :) Both!
